I just received it.

M (who always gives the best presents - when he went to Finland last summer, he brought me back a little lacquered wooden egg with a fairy-tale scene painted on it, and a Russian boy-scout patch; swoon) recently gave me this:

It's from a series of educational books from around the 1890s to the 1920s. The funny thing is, we used to have them when I was a kid, a whole collection, and I can remember studying them earnestly when I was about seven, and feeling kind of dumb because I just didn't get many of the articles. So it was kind of reassuring to look this one over, because it still doesn't make any sense, at least as a textbook for children. Case in point:
