A New Editor for Maisonneuve

Sept. 4, 2013

After nearly three years at the helm, Maisonneuve editor-in-chief Drew Nelles is stepping down this week. Haley Cullingham, Maisonneuve’s associate editor since last fall, has been tapped to fill Nelles’ shoes.

“Editing Maisonneuve has been a dream job,” Nelles says. “But it’s time for me to move on, and for Maisonneuve to get some fresh blood. That sense of change and unpredictability is what keeps the magazine great.”

Cullingham—also the managing editor of She Does the City and a freelance writer—was hired following an open application process. Stepping in as the magazine’s new associate editor is Eric Andrew-Gee, whose writing for Maisonneuve has been nominated for several National Magazine Awards.

“Haley and Eric are both sharp, young, talented editors,” Nelles says. “I have no doubt they’ll carry on Maisonneuve’s proud legacy, as well as put their own stamp on the magazine.”

Under Nelles’ direction, Maisonneuve won Magazine of the Year—the industry’s highest honour—at the 2012 NMAs, and this year won more NMAs than at any other point in its history. Nelles plans to move to New York to continue working in journalism. His final issue as editor-in-chief will be Fall 2013, No. 49, on stands September 20.
